Have you ever felt like something was holding you back from truly living the life you desire? That invisible force that keeps you from taking the leap, speaking your truth, or pursuing your dreams?

I know that feeling all too well. Today, I want to share a personal story that changed the course of my life—and in doing so, I hope to help you break free from the limitations you may not even realize are holding you back.

Seventeen years ago (Sept. 11th 2007), I graduated from university as a professor of German language and literature. It was a huge achievement, and it marked the start of my professional journey. 

But as it turns out, it wasn’t my true calling. That revelation didn’t come until years later, on a seemingly ordinary day—April 24th (btw. the 24th of April was the day I graduated for the second time and became a professor of English language and literature - coincidence??).

I had decided to write a book about how to learn a language in just three months, using a brain-based methodology I had developed. I was full of excitement as I outlined the topics and began writing. But something unusual happened. I started writing the book in English.

This wasn’t planned. In fact, my intention was to write the book in Slovenian and then translate it into German. But the inspiration was so strong that I just couldn’t stop. One month later, I had written an entire book in English—a language I had always felt hesitant to communicate in.

Despite having graduated in English language and literature, I had never felt “good enough” to share my knowledge in English (outside of the classrooms). 

I doubted my ability to express myself clearly and feared the judgment I might face if I made mistakes. Deep down, I had internalized the belief that “teachers don’t make mistakes,” and this perfectionism kept me from stepping into my potential.

This was a self-imposed limitation that I wasn’t even fully aware of until that moment. I had been holding myself back from communicating in English because I feared I wouldn’t measure up.

But something shifted as I wrote that book. I realized that my passion for sharing knowledge mattered more than the fear of making a mistake. And that’s when I started to let go of the perfectionism that had kept me stuck for so long.


What’s Holding You Back?


We all have limiting beliefs—stories we tell ourselves that keep us from living the life we want. These beliefs often stem from childhood, past experiences, or societal conditioning, and they can take many forms.

Maybe you’ve caught yourself thinking:

“I’m not smart enough to start that business.”

But here’s the truth: These limitations are not real. They’re constructs of your mind, and once you become aware of them, you have the power to break free.

The moment I realized that perfectionism had been holding me back, it felt like an awakening. I saw clearly how much time I had wasted worrying about what others would think, instead of focusing on what truly mattered—sharing my message, my knowledge, and my passion.

The first step is to identify the limiting beliefs that are holding you back. 

Ask yourself:

- What stories am I telling myself that keep me from taking action?
- Where did these beliefs come from?
- Are they truly serving me, or are they keeping me small?

Once you recognize the beliefs that no longer serve you, you can begin the work of releasing them. And when you do, the possibilities for your life open up in ways you can’t even imagine.
